Some Lesser Known Facts About Pawan Kumar
- He grew up in a mud house in extreme poverty.
- In childhood, he moved to his maternal grandparents’ house, where he pursued his schooling till class 8. During this time, he often used to visit his home on weekends and school holidays.
- After pursuing his BA, Pawan moved to Delhi, where he began taking coaching for UPSC Civil Services Examination.
- Pawan took the coaching for UPSC for two years from a coaching institute in Delhi. He also self-studied a few subjects.
- In order to prepare for the UPSC Examination, Pawan Kumar required a mobile phone and asked his father for it. His father however could not afford it at that time. His father and his family worked hard to collect Rs. 3200 to buy him a second-hand mobile phone, on which Pawan attended online classes.
- In 2023, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination, securing 239 rank. This was his third attempt.
- In his second attempt, he fell short of just 1 mark to crack the examination.
- When he failed to clear the examination even in his second attempt, he initially thought of giving up and decided to work as a content writer.
- Pawan wanted to become an IAS officer since childhood. Talking about it, his father said,
He wanted to be an IAS (officer) since childhood. I often asked him to get a part-time job. But he used to tell me not to disturb him. He has had no hobby apart from studying.”
- Pawan’s family owns four-bigha agricultural land and a thatched kutcha in Raghunathpur, Bulandshahr. His family lives in a broken house, whose roof is made of tarpaulin and is supported by poles. A lawnmower and animals are also tied under it.
- After the UPSC 2023 results were declared online, a video of Pawan Kumar went viral on the internet in which he thanked his parents and sisters for their constant support.
