Controversies Teasing Tamil Super Star Rajinikanth
In 2019, the new filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan gained attention when a scene from his film Comali became viral. The scene featured actor Jayam Ravi poking fun at superstar Rajinikanth's political entry announcement. This caused controversy on social media, and Rajinikanth's fans started a #BoycottComali trend on Twitter, demanding an apology from the filmmaker. In the scene, Jayam Ravi's character wakes up after 16 years in a vegetative state and is shown a clip of Rajinikanth announcing his political entry. This didn't sit well with Rajinikanth's fans, who asked the director to remove the scene from the movie. In reality, Rajinikanth had hinted at his political entry in 1996 but officially made the announcement in December 2017. The director clarified that he had no intention of hurting anyone's sentiments with the scene. He said,

Rajini sir made a hint about getting into politics in 1996. We have a character who wakes up after being in a coma and realises that Rajini sir had finally taken the political plunge. That is what we tried to convey through that scene.”

Following the extensive discussions, the decision was made to ultimately remove the scene from both the film and the trailer. [1]The Hindu
