Some Lesser Known Facts About Prasad Pujari

  • Prasad Pujari started roaming with the gang members of the underworld don Kumar Pillai during his teenage years and later became a trusted man of Pillai.
  • He was acquitted in September 2005 due to insufficient evidence after spending two and a half years in jail for an attempt to murder case.
  • In 2005, he was charged with eight cases of murder, attempt to murder, and extortion at Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, and LT Marg police stations in Mumbai.
  • He later fled to Hong Kong, where he initially lived with Pillai. After some time, he began a construction business there and also started handling the gang members of Pillai, who were living in India.

  • In March 2008, he managed to obtain a temporary residence in China which was valid till March 2012.
  • While staying in China, he used to change his locations often to evade arrest and eventually settled in Luohu district, Shenzhen City, where he married a Chinese girl.
  • Several Mumbai police officers alleged that after Pillai was extradited from Singapore in 2016, Pujari took over the gang and became the boss.
  • His name made headlines again in 2019 after his gang fired at the Shiv Sena leader Chandrashekhar Jadhav in Tagore Nagar, Vikroli East, but missed.
  • In 2019, the anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai crime branch registered an attempt to murder case against him and eight associates. He remained absconding but his eight associates were arrested from Mumbai, Thane, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
  • Another extortion case was registered against Pujari and his associates in 2020 for demanding Rs 10 lakh as extortion money from a Vikhroli-based builder.
  • On 11 March 2020, Mumbai police officials arrested Pujari’s mother from Mira Road, his cousin brother, Suresh Kumar Suvarna, from Mangaluru and a close associate named Sunil Angane from Vikhroli East.

  • Reportedly, then-Mumbai police commissioner, Param Bir Singh, was handling the project related to the arrest of Pujari’s family members to lure Pujari into a trap.
