Palaniswami, who belonged to the AIADMK party. On 21 February 2021, while he was serving as the Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) and traveling to Ulundurpet District in his official car, an unfortunate incident occurred. It was alleged that he harassed a junior woman IPS Officer who was traveling alongside him in the car. These allegations led to his subsequent suspension from duty. The victim lodged a complaint against him at CBCID-North in Villupuram district, accusing him of violating Sections 354A(2), 341, and 506(1) of IPC, as well as Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998. Subsequently, a committee was established to probe the allegations, and it determined that the charges were valid. Additionally, the victim reported that the Superintendent of Police, Chengalpet, D Kannan, obstructed her from registering the complaint. On 16 June 2023, after a two-year-long trial, Rajesh Das was found guilty of sexual harassment by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) M Pushparani in Villupuram. The CJM also convicted him under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman (Amendment) Act, 2002. As a result, he was imposed with two fines of Rs 10,000 each and received two concurrent three-year sentences. Subsequently, Rajesh was granted bail in order to file an appeal.
