  • S Yashasri is an Indian cricketer who is known for being chosen by UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League auction.
  • When she was in school, she played multiple sports like Coco, swimming, and basketball, but was not interested in cricket. One day, when she saw her friend Pooja Vanka batting during an inter-school game, she decided that she also wanted to become a cricketer.
  • In 2016, she was called to be part of the school cricket team as they fell short of players, where she discovered her bowling talent when she was asked to bowl as she was tall.
  • When she was 13 years old, she used to watch matches on television and take notice of things a player would do in a particular situation. Later, Soon, she started training at joined Bhavan’s Cricket Academy, and later, she moved to Iqbal Cricket Academy in Hyderabad.
  • Although many suggested Yashasri quit the sport citing that there was no future for girls in cricket, her parents always supported her. She revealed that she never focused on her studies and only attended school for exams.
  • Her father played divisional cricket when he was young. After taking VRS from IAF, he joined the Canara bank to afford the expenses of his daughter. He got a lot of support from Samaritans like coach Mohd Iqbal and former Hyderabad player Kanishk Naidu, who charged less fee from her as compared to other players.
  • She played for Hyderabad in the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy 2021-22.
  • She was named to India’s U19 squad for the India Women U19 tour of South Africa 2022/23. There, she claimed four wickets in two T20s.
  • Initially, she was not selected for the Indian team that was announced in December 2022 for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, but she was chosen as a replacement player in the squad when Mumbai’s Hurley Gala suffered a laceration to her right thumb, which required stitches. In the championship decider, India beat England by 7 wickets and became the inaugural champions of the tournament. In the tournament, she got to play only one match.

  • In 2023, she was picked by UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League auction for Rs. 10 Lakh. In an interview, she said that she got the news when she was in the gym. In the interview, she further added,

    I saw the auctions for some time and went for my gym session. I was not expecting to get picked, so I was not nervous about the auctions. But when I got the news, I felt great. Since I was in the gym, I could not express my feeling in front of everyone but felt great inside.”
