Some Lesser Known Facts About Shraddha Joshi Sharma

• Shraddha Joshi Sharma is an IRS officer of the 2007 batch. IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma is her husband. In October 2023, a film, 12th Fail, based on Manoj’s life struggles to become an IPS officer was released.

• She completed her primary education under the Uttar Pradesh board and achieved the 13th position in the state for her 12th-grade board examinations.

• She once revealed in an interview that both her parents are teachers by profession and they were very strict. She used to be terrified but this also helped her remain disciplined during her childhood and teen years.

• Upon finishing her formal education, she served as a physician at a hospital in Uttarakhand.

• After working there for some time, Shraddha and her roommate, Sanjay, started studying to become civil servants. While giving an interview, Shraddha said that she and her friend decided to pursue a career as civil servants following the tragic incident in which a woman, who had suffered domestic abuse, was admitted to the hospital where she worked with severe burn marks on her body and tragically passed away.

• Shraddha Joshi Sharma started her exam preparations but, faced with a lack of guidance in Almora, she made the choice to relocate to New Delhi and enrolled with Drishti IAS.

• In an interview, Shraddha mentioned that when her husband, Manoj, was attending police training at SVPNPA, he would call her at night or during breaks to inquire about her UPSC preparations. She talked about it further and said,
  

  He was in SVPNPA and there he used to call me with a Docomo landline whenever he had time. His schedule was packed yet he took time to ask me how my preparations were going. He also asked me questions on general knowledge, as his knowledge is really good in it. He also kept me motivated.”

• On her first day at the institute, Shraddha encountered Manoj, right after Dr. Vikas Divyakirti, their instructor, praised Manoj’s writing skills in front of the entire class. This prompted her to approach Manoj for advice, an interaction Manoj recalls as love at first sight.

• She acquired her scuba diving skills at the Indian Institute of Scuba Diving and Aquatic Sports, run by MTDC.

• In an interview, Shraddha disclosed that she assisted her husband by preparing notes and timetables, and during her final UPSC attempt, Manoj reciprocated by helping her practice her answers verbally.

• She got an All India Rank (AIR) of 121 in the UPSC’s 2007 civil services examinations, joining the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).

• Thereafter, she was assigned to the Indian Revenue Service’s Indirect Taxes (Customs and GST) division.

• She later underwent training at the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

• Shraddha worked in the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Maharashtra after completing her training.

• At the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), she worked closely with numerous women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) and made significant contributions to the development and execution of gender-inclusive policies in the state.

• At MTDC, she played an instrumental role in facilitating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at promoting bilateral tourism between Maharashtra and Japan.

• Shraddha, in an interview, said that her parents were initially reluctant to marry her to Manoj, despite him becoming a police officer, due to his assignment in the Maharashtra cadre. During this period, Shraddha was stationed as a PCS officer in Nainital, Uttarakhand. To persuade her parents, Manoj lied by assuring them that upon their marriage and the presentation of their marriage certificate to the government, he would be granted a cadre transfer from Maharashtra to Uttarakhand on compassionate grounds.

• She likes the song “Senorita” from the 2011 Bollywood movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.”

• According to her, she is proficient in handling weapons that she learned at the National Academy of Direct Taxes.

• Joshi claimed that she lacks proficiency in swimming. When questioned about her successful completion of swimming tests during IRS training, she clarified that although passing these tests is mandatory for aspiring IPS officers, it is not a requirement for those in the IRS training program.

• Shraddha has held the position of secretary at the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR).
