Controversies | On 11 January 2000, he stabbed his first wife Anju Ilyasi to death. The Delhi police arrested him on 28 March 2000, for dowry death, after Anju's sister Rashmi Singh lodged an FIR against him. After 17-years, on 20 December 2017, he was sentenced to jail for life for murdering his wife. On 5 October 2018, he was acquitted on charges of murdering his wife. |

Some Lesser Known Facts About Suhaib Ilyasi
- Suhaib was born into a conservative Muslim family, as his father was the head of All India Imams Organisation and the imam of a mosque in Delhi.
- In November 1989, he met his first wife Anju Singh at Jamia Millia Islamia, where both were doing the same course.
- Being an inter-religion marriage, both families were against it, however, they got married in London in 1993 under the Special Marriage Act.
- The couple always had marriage issues, and when they came back to India from London, Anju refused to live with him, and instead, returned to London to stay with her brother who somehow convinced her to stay in the marriage.
- When he was in London, he saw the British show, Crimestoppers, and came up with an idea of making a crime based show.
- In 1997, he formed a proprietorship company called ‘Aaliya Productions Pvt Ltd.’
- He rose to fame for hosting the popular crime show ‘India’s Most Wanted’ (1999).
- In 2009, he became the editor-in-chief of ‘Bureaucracy Today’ magazine, a monthly English print magazine.
