- After completing his formal education, T. P. Madhavan briefly joined the Indian Army but left after six months due to a hand injury.
- He then worked as a journalist for The Indian Express in Bombay, earning Rs. 175 monthly.
- After that, T. P. Madhavan moved to Bangalore and worked for an advertising agency, earning Rs. 400 monthly.
- Later, he moved to Kolkata, which led to his entry into the film industry.
- T. P. Madhavan made his acting debut when he was 40 years old.
- He first became known for playing villainous roles, then moved to comedy, and later to character roles.
- While working in Kolkata, he became friends with film actor and director Madhu. Madhu was looking for an actress for his film Priya (1970), and T. P. Madhavan helped him find one.
