- She has been inclined towards acting since her childhood. However, her uncle Cho Ramaswamy did not want her to work in films.
- In school, she used to participate in various extra curricular activities.
- At the age of 13, she started her career as an actor.
- She has worked in films of different languages i.e. Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
- In the 1990s, she appeared in various Telugu films like Sutradharulu (1989), Allari Priyudu (1993), Mugguru Monagallu (1994), Dharma Chakram (1996), and Kante Kuthurne Kanu (1998).
- While working with the Indian film director K.S. Ravikumar in the late 90s, she reportedly got very close to him who was already married at that time. They were alleged to be dating each other. There were even rumours that Ramya was pregnant with his child and Ravikumar had paid around Rs 75 lakhs to abort the child.
