Some Lesser Known Facts About Raman Singh

Raman is a doctor of Ayurvedic medicine. Since he noticed the lack of good and experienced doctors in his hometown, he decided to pursue his career in medical stream.

After his graduation, he prefered to stay and practice in the rural areas. He used to charge nominal fees and even treated poor free of cost. The local people fondly called him, ‘doctor of the poor.’

Doctor Raman is a religious person and takes interest in studying religious texts.

In 1976-1977, he joined Bharatiya Jan Sangh as a youth member and served as the President of the youth wing in Kawardha.

He was also a member of the Public Accounts Committee during his term of an MLA of MP from 1993-98.

From 1999 to 2003, Raman served as the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry under the Prime Ministership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Under the Salwa Judum initiative in 2005, Singh took the initiative of banning the Maoist organisations which was also supported by the opposition.
