- Hayley Arceneaux is an American who was selected to join billionaire Jared Isaacman on SpaceX’s first private spaceflight Inspiration4 in the fourth quarter of 2021. She may become one of the youngest Americans to fly in space. Hayley is regarded as one of four people on the first all-civilian mission to space. The four members of the crew are Jared Isaacman, an American billionaire businessman and pilot, and he is the founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, Sian Proctor, a commercial astronaut, Hayley Arceneaux, and Christopher Sembroski.
- In April 2020, Hayley Arceneaux started working at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis as a physician assistant. She is also a private astronaut.
- At the beginning of January 2021, St. Jude offered her a seat on the Inspiration4 space mission. Hayley Arceneaux accepted the offer immediately. - Hayley Arceneaux is a bone cancer survivor. At the age of ten, she complained of knees ache, and her doctor thought that it was just a sprain. However, after a few months, tests revealed that Hayley suffered from osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. She was admitted to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the treatment of bone cancer. Chemotherapy, a limb-preservation surgery with knee replacement, and placement of a titanium rod in her left thigh bone were the treatments done to cure her. Several physical therapies were also associated with this treatment.
- With the passage of time, she recovered and was cured with bone cancer treatment. While working at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in an interview, she said,
I think for my patients to see someone just like them and for other survivors to see somebody who’s been through cancer going to space, I think it’s going to mean so much for them.”
- As a child, Hayley Arceneaux visited the NASA space centre in Houston, Texas and always wanted to become an astronaut. In an interview, she said,
Of course, I wanted to be an astronaut. But then a few months later I was diagnosed with cancer, and it really changed my whole world.”
