  • Nishant Sindhu is an Indian cricketer who is known for achieving a century in the final match against England in the U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022.
  • Nishant’s father, Sunil Kumar, wanted Nishant to become a boxer because his father had to give up on his dream of becoming a boxer due to his family responsibilities. In an interview, his father said that when India won the T-20 World Cup in 2007, Nishant was three years old and was happy with India’s win. He further added that he gifted a plastic bat to his son to play cricket. His father further said,

    I always wanted him to be a sportsperson, be it cricket or boxing. I decided that I would never let anything come between him and his dream. He wanted to play cricket, and I decided to back him with my last penny.”

  • In 2011, Nishant started his initial training at the Shri Ram Narain Cricket Academy. In the academy, he was trained by Sant Rathee. In an interview, his coach talked about him and said,

    I saw an 8-year-old kid with a natural loop. It was so natural. The batting was equally good, the hand-eye coordination, the drives, everything was so perfect.”

  • In 2017, he played the U-14 Dhruv Pandove Trophy in Patiala where he scored 290 runs and took 24 wickets in the tournament for Haryana.
  • Later in 2017, he played the 61st match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 for Haryana against Delhi. In the match, he became the top scorer after scoring 122 runs.
  • In 2019, Nishant played the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy for Haryana and scored 53 runs in the match. His team won the tournament and defeated Jharkhand.

  • He has played other international ODIs against countries that include Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies, England, and Bangladesh.
  • In 2021, he played the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy tournament in which he scored 299 runs and took 12 wickets for Haryana in the match.

  • Later in 2021, he was selected for the India U-19 squad for the Asia Cup and U-19 World Cup. During the U-19 World Cup, he was the captain for team India for matches against Ireland and Uganda because Yash Dhull who was the captain at that time had tested positive for Covid-19.

  • After heading the team in these matches, Nishant also tested positive for Covid-19 and did not play in the quarter-final match against Bangladesh. He recovered before the semi-finale and played the semi-final match against Australia. In the U-19 World Cup final match against England, he hit fifty runs on fifty-four balls.
