Some Lesser Known Facts About Gal Gadot

• In Hebrew, her first name ‘Gal’ means “wave” and her surname ‘Gadot’ means “riverbanks,” which combines to form the meaning “Wave of Riverbanks.”

• Her parents changed their surname from “Greenstein” to “Gadot” before her birth.

• Her father is a sixth-generation Sabra, which refers to someone born in Israel.

• Her maternal grandparents were born in the 1900s. Her grandfather was imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland during World War II. While he survived Holocaust, the killing of six million Jewish people by Nazi Germany, her grandmother left Europe before the World War II started.

• Gal belongs to a multicultural family as she has described her family background as “1/4 Polish, 1/4 Austrian, 1/4 German, and 1/4 Czech”.

• While growing up in Israel, she learned jazz and hip-hop for about 12 years.

• As part of every Jewish high school tradition in Israel, she once visited two concentration camps, Auschwitz and Majdanek, in Poland to honour the memory of the deceased in the Holocaust. Gal once shared her experience about that in an interview and said,
  

  I stood there on top of a mountain of ashes. I, an entitled child, felt the suffering the Muselmann experienced back then. When it was time to give my speech at the memorial ceremony, my eyes filled up with tears, and I could not control the shivering. I returned home more mature and cried with my grandfather about that, coming a full circle from his childhood to mine.”

• Gal initially worked at a local Burger King and also did babysitting.

• She joined the Israel Defense Forces at the age of 20 and served as a combat fitness instructor for two years.

• In 2004, she competed in the Miss Israel beauty pageant and emerged as the winner. She later participated in the 53rd Miss Universe pageant the same year.

• In October 2023, Gadot joined over 700 Hollywood professionals and signed a letter condemning Hamas during the  Israel–Hamas war. In the letter, they supported Israel and demanded the release of hostages in Gaza.
