• Todd Murphy is an Australian cricketer, who received his baggy Green Test cap (465) from his fellow off-spinner Nathan Lyon ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener against India on 9 February 2023 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

• Todd grew up in the NSW town of Moama, New South Wales, Australia, where his father, Jamie Murphy, who hailed from Mathoura in country NSW, resettled.

• From an early age, Todd Murphy shared his father’s passion and technical acuity for the game of cricket. His father used to Premier cricket in Australia during his younger days. Jamie has played cricket with the late Shane Warne.

• His elder brother, Joel Murphy, earlier used to play cricket for St Kilda. Later, he got associated with Sandhurst Cricket Club in the Bendigo District Cricket Association.

• According to his father, Todd Murphy was a larrikin during his primary school days. In an interview, while talking about it, his father said,
  

  He was always hard to handle, you just knew he had a bit of fire in his belly. He certainly wasn’t mild, meek and just going to do what he was told.”

• He began playing cricket at a young age. Initially, he played as a batsman, however, when he turned 16, Todd started bowling off-spin.

• In 2017, Todd Murphy received the Sportstar of the Year Award in the junior category.

• Once, while Todd was training at an under-16 training session in Rochester, he came into the notice of Craig Howard, a former Australian cricketer, who helped Todd to make it to Australia’s U-19 squad for the 2020 U19 World Cup. In the World Cup, he made seven dismissals.

• He then started playing club cricket for Moama Cricket Club.

• He has also played two seasons for Victorian Premier Cricket Club, St Kilda.

• On 10 March 2021, he played his first List A cricket match for Victoria Second XI against Tasmania in Melbourne.

• During the 2020-21 Sheffield Shield season, Murphy made his first-class debut for Victoria on 3 April 2021. In his second first-class match, Murphy scored 24 runs and took 7 wickets, helping Victoria win the match over Tasmania.

• In June 2021, he was a part of Australia A squad that went on a Sri Lanka tour.

• During the 2021 Big Bash League, on 26 December 2021, Todd Murphy played his first T20 match for Sydney Sixers against Thunder at Sydney.

• In the 2022-23 Sheffield Shield season, Todd Murphy represented Victoria. During the tournament, he was widely tipped as the heir apparent to Nathan Lyon.

• In his first 10 first-class matches, Todd Murphy has made 29 dismissals at 25.20.

• In 2023, Murphy was shortlisted in the Australia Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. He was one of the four spinners in the team, the other three being Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar, and Mitchell Swepson.

• On 9 February 2023, he played his first test match for Australia against India at Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.
