• In previous videos she made with David Dobrik, a fellow YouTube sensation who was then her boyfriend, Liza Koshy has expressed regret for making racial remarks. She and Dobrik tried Japanese candy in two vlogs from 2016. A TikTok user referred to the pair’s usage of imitation Japanese accents as “clear evidence of the normalised racism against Asians.” Liza responded to this accusation and said that she never intended to be racist and that she was sorry for any harm she may have caused. At the time, she claimed, her jokes were “innocent,” but she has since come to terms with the fact that they are “tainted with implicit bias.” In two of her previous videos, Liza Koshy made racially insensitive comments that she later apologised for in a long apology on Twitter. She claimed that despite her lifetime of discrimination, she was unaware of the damage it caused.

  What you saw on Vine was totally different than what you saw on YouTube. What you saw on YouTube was totally different than what you saw on my Instagram. I had different aesthetics and different branches of my personalities I created on each platform. And that was my way of bringing in an audience to see these different sides of me, but also a form of just like, me compartmentalizing the different sides that I can be.”
