- Geeta Bharat Jain is an Indian politician. She served as the Mayor of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in Mumbai from 2015 to 2017. Later, she backed the Shiv Sena-led administration and joined Shiv Sena after a year. She represents the Mira Bhayandar constituency in the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. She re-joined the BJP on 22 June 2022 as a result of the Shiv Sena’s growing internal strife.
- In 2002, Geeta Bharat Jain became a corporator in Mumbai for the first time. Soon, she began focussing on local politics within the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. In 2012, she was elected as a corporator for a second term and then went on to become the mayor in 2015. She was re-elected as a corporator in 2017 and started backing the Shiv Sena-led administration in Mumbai.
- In 2019, Geeta Bharat Jain went against the Shiv Sena party because they did not give her the ticket to contest the general elections from the Mira-Bhayandar Assembly constituency. Despite being an independent candidate, she defeated BJP leader and MLA Narendra Mehta in the election. During her campaign, Geeta Bharat Jain mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s name to gain support. Afterwards, Jain joined the Shiv Sena, but due to disagreements within the party, she left in June 2022 when the BJP and the Eknath Shinde faction of the Sena were working on forming the government, she returned to the BJP.
- On 22 June 2023, Geeta Bharat Jain was in the news when two junior engineers reported to Mumbai police that Geeta Jain reportedly harassed them and smacked one of them while she was on duty. The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s engineers asked that they filed an FIR against Jain. A video of the incident was uploaded on social media, where it quickly gained popularity. Later, Jain stated in the media that she did not regret taking matters into her own hands even though she believed the municipal corporation was carrying out an illegal demolition.
