Some Lesser Known Facts About Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi

• Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi is the fifth Caliph (Head) of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a terrorist organization.

• After Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s call for Muslim scholars to join ISIS and fight against the U.S.A., Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi joined the terrorist organization. He later rose to become one of its top leaders. Before joining ISIS, he had been working as an Imam in a mosque.

• On 27 July 2023, Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi was appointed as the fifth Caliph (Head) of ISIS following the death of the fourth Caliph, Abu Hussein al-Qurashi, during clashes in Syria’s Idlib province. The announcement of al-Qurashi’s appointment was made through a 13-minute audio message released by the group’s new Spokesman, Abu Hodhayfa Al-Ansari, on behalf of ISIS’ Central Command media arm, Al-Furqan. ^[2]Global Security

• In his announcement, Abu Hodhayfa Al-Ansari revealed that ISIS’s Shura Council selected Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi as the fifth Caliph during their meeting. Al-Qurashi was praised as a wise and resourceful leader who had demonstrated his courage by fighting against the Crusaders. Al-Ansari urged all ISIS fighters to unquestioningly follow al-Qurashi’s commands as they move forward under his leadership. He said,
