• Sharfuddoula began his cricket career on 22 November 2000 in a match between Dhaka Metropolis and Sylhet Division when he played for the Bangladeshi first-class cricket team Dhaka Metropolis.

• On 27 January 2001, he played his last first-class cricket match during the Dhaka Metropolis v Chittagong Division in Bangladesh as he left cricket due to a back injury.

• After recovering from his injury, he started working as a cricket operations manager for the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

• Later, due to his passion for cricket, he decided to get back on the field as an umpire.

• In February 2007, he began umpiring first-class cricket during a match between Barisal Division and Sylhet Division in Bangladesh.

• In January 2010, he became the tenth Bangladeshi to umpire at the international level during his first ODI match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

• In March 2018, he was appointed as one of the match officials for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe and in November of the same year, he became one of the twelve on-field umpires for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20.

• In October 2019, he was one of the twelve umpires to umpire matches during the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates and in January 2020, he was appointed as one of the sixteen umpires for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup which was held in South Africa.

• In February 2021, he became the fifth Bangladeshi umpire to officiate in test matches when he officiated both the test matches played between Bangladesh and West Indies.

• In February 2022, he was appointed as one of the on-field umpires for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and in January 2023, he became one of the on-field umpires for the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

• In March 2023, he became the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate in 100 men’s international matches when he officiated during the 3rd T20I between Bangladesh and Ireland.

• In September 2023, he was appointed as one of the sixteen match officials for the 2023 Cricket World Cup and became one of the first Bangladeshi umpires to be named as one of the umpires for the Men’s World Cup and was also selected to stand in 5 matches as an on-field umpire in the World Cup including a group stage match between Australia and New Zealand.

• In January 2024, he succeeded the Bangladeshi umpire Enamul Haque Moni and became the second Bangladeshi umpire to officiate a Test match as a neutral umpire outside Bangladesh in Australia, being named as an on-field umpire for the 2nd Test between Australia and West Indies.

• Up until March 2024, Sharfuddoula has officiated in 10 Tests, 63 one-day internationals, and 44 Twenty20 internationals during his umpiring career.

• On 28 March 2024, after the International Cricket Council’s annual review and selection process, he became the first Bangladeshi umpire to be included in the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. replacing the South African umpire Marais Erasmus who retired from umpiring in international cricket in February 2024.
