- Angelo Mathews is a Sri Lankan cricketer who has also served as the captain in various tournaments. He was a member of the 2014 T20 World Cup-winning squad of Sri Lanka. He became the first cricketer to be dismissed timed out in international cricket.
- During his childhood, he used to play cricket and athletics and competed in provincial and national athletic tournaments in hurdles and 100-meter events; however, his family liked cricket more and the training sessions of both games started to clash, hence he chose cricket and became a professional cricketer.
- He started playing in school cricket and played in many teams of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. On 10 November 2006, he made his first-class debut for Colts Cricket Club, and on 28 February 2007, he played his first T20 match for the same club. On 16 September 2005, he played his debut List A (one-day) match.
- Angelo Mathews was nicknamed Jocka during his school days as he wore his underwear over his tights.
- Mathews’ wife, Heshani Silva, knew Angelo Mathews when she was studying at St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo. She often met him at the badminton tournaments as she used to play badminton during her teenage years. They dated each other for six and a half years.
