ControversiesProtest Over Road Delays: On 24 July 2011, Ravindra Chavan led a protest in Kalyan West, Mumbai, with over 400 people, demanding the completion of the long-pending Govindwadi bypass. The 1.5 km road had been left incomplete for over six years, causing daily traffic and pollution problems. He also raised concerns about the unfinished Mumbra–Dombivli road project. During the protest, he was arrested and sent to Adharwadi Jail in Kalyan. He, however, refused to take bail as a way to express his strong stand. On 28 July, he began a hunger strike, urging the government to restart work on both projects. [1]Mumbai Mirror

Backlash Over Pig Reference During Speech: In June 2016, Ravindra Chavan stirred controversy after a video of his speech at a Smart City Program event in Kalyan, Thane, went viral. While addressing the audience, he shared a story about Abraham Lincoln rescuing a piglet and compared it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis helping Dalits. His remarks were widely criticised for indirectly comparing Dalits to pigs. In protest, opposition parties and Dalit organisations demanded an apology, and the NCP's district unit even named a pig "Ravindra Chavan" as a symbolic act. Despite the outrage, Chavan did not respond publicly. [2]India Today
