  • In May 2023, Mathura Sridharan started working as the director of Ohio’s Tenth Amendment Centre at the Ohio Solicitor’s Office.

  • During this period, she fought legal cases to protect Ohio people from illegal actions by the federal government. She worked to assign the roles of the federal government and the state governments.

  • Mathura Sridharan wrote legal documents and spoke in court for many appeals. She also argued cases in the Ohio Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit and other federal appeal courts.

  • In 2023, Mathura worked in the United States Supreme Court for a case called Ohio v. EPA. She represented several states against a rule made by the Environmental Protection Agency about air pollution between states.
  • Before working at the Ohio Solicitor’s Office, Mathura Sridharan worked as a clerk for Judge Steven J Menashi in the Second Circuit Appeals Court.

  • Some people did not like that someone with an Indian background got such an important legal job in America. Many rude and racist remarks were asking why the job did not go to an ‘American.’

  • After people criticised Mathura Sridharan for being Indian and wearing a bindi, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost defended her. Yost said in a media conversation that saying Mathura was not American was wrong.

  • Yost added that if someone had a problem with the way she looked or her name, the problem was with that person, not with her. Dave Yost said,

    A few commenters have asserted incorrectly that Mathura is not American. She is a United States citizen, married to a US citizen, and the child of naturalized US citizens. If her name or her complexion bother you, the problem is not with her or her appointment.
