- Sanjay Krishnamurthi was born in Corvallis, Oregon, to an Indian father and a Caucasian mother.
- Sanjay was inclined towards cricket because of his father’s love for cricket.
- When he was eight years old, his family moved to India and settled in Bengaluru.
- Soon after shifting to India, he joined a cricket academy.
- At the age of 11, he was selected in the Anil Kumble Spin Star talent hunt and also represented Karnataka state in an under-16 tournament.
- During his school cricket days, he switched from mainly bowling to focusing more on batting after scoring heavily and opening the batting, including more than 500 runs in six matches.
- Because he held an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card and not Indian citizenship, he became ineligible to play for Karnataka under a local rule, which eventually influenced his decision to pursue cricket opportunities in the United States.
- In 2019, Sanajy attended trials for the newly forming Major League Cricket in both Mumbai and Houston.
- In 2020, while his family was still in India, he was recruited to attend a cricket training camp in Houston. - Along with cricket, Krishnamurthi developed his interest in other areas as well, including coding. When he was in India, he participated in the World Robot Olympiad at the national level. So for his higher studies, he chose computer science. In 2021, Krishnamurthi joined San José State University (SJSU). In an interview, he mentioned that,
I wanted something within Northern California because that’s where cricket is. And at the same time, our family had already relocated so many times. I didn’t want to relocate again. San José State was my number one choice both because of the excellent computer science program and then also because of its location in the heart of the Bay Area. It was an easy choice.”
- In June 2021, Sanjay was selected to take part in the Minor League Cricket tournament for the Bay Blazers.
- In September 2021, he was selected as a reserve player in the United States’ One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2021 Oman Tri-Nation Series. He is one of the youngest USA cricketers to debut in ODIs at age 18.
