• Shubham Lonkar was born in the Nevari village in Akola district and had earlier participated in National Cadet Corps activities.

• Investigators believe he came in contact with Lawrence Bishnoi gang associates during an NCC event in Rajasthan around 2018 or 2019.

• After this period, Lonkar and his brother Pravin moved from Akot to Pune and later began working and living there.

• On 28 July 2024, Lonkar, Gaurav Apune, and Rupesh Mohol travelled from Pune to Ranchi by Hatia Express train.

• Police said the group then travelled about 85 kilometres to the Gumla district and another 43 kilometres to Champatoli village.

• Investigators stated that Lonkar practiced firing an AK-57 rifle in a remote, hilly mining area near Champatoli village.

• Police said the rifle was allegedly sourced from Naxalite operatives active in the forested region of Jharkhand.

• According to investigators, Lonkar practiced firing multiple rounds, while his associates only learned basic handling of the weapon.

• The group stayed near Champatoli village for about five days before returning to Pune in the first week of August 2024.

• Soon after the firing, a Facebook message under the name “Shubham Lonkar Aarzoo Bishnoi” claimed responsibility for the attack.

• Mumbai police detained five men from Pune in that case and are investigating their possible links with Lonkar.
