Some Lesser Known Facts About Anjali Kulthe

• On 26 November 2008, Anjali Kulthe was working the night shift in the antenatal care unit of Cama and Albless Hospital for Women and Children in Mumbai, India.

• Her duty started at 8:00 PM, and she taking care of the 20 women who were in the final stages of pregnancy.

• That night, Pakistani terrorists Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismail entered the hospital after attacking the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station.

• When Kulthe saw that the terrorists shot two hospital security guards, she quickly ran to close and lock the heavy double doors of her ward.

• She managed to do this a few seconds before the terrorists reached on that floor.

• Kulthe then shifted all 20 pregnant women and their family members into a small dark pantry at the far end of the ward.

• She switched off the lights and told everyone to silence their mobile phones so that the terrorists could not find them.

• During this period, one of the patients, who was suffering from high blood pressure, went into labor. The doctors could not safely reach the floor due to gunfire and grenade explosions, so Kulthe carefully guided the woman through the corridor while staying close to the walls.

• In the labor room, she successfully helped deliver a healthy baby girl using the dim light from a single television tube light.

• A month after the attacks, she was called by the Mumbai police to identify the terrorist who had been captured. She went to Arthur Road Jail and pointed out Ajmal Kasab.

• Later, she became an important eyewitness during the official 26/11 terror attack court proceedings.

• Reportedly, she took permission from the court to wear her nurse’s uniform before giving her testimony. According to her, it gave her the strength to face the terrorist.

• Later, in a media conversation, she claimed that when she saw Kasab during the court proceedings, he showed no signs of remorse or guilt for his actions.

• In December 2022, Kulthe was invited to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to deliver a speech.

• In the speech, she talked about her personal experience of the attack and spoke on behalf of the victims.

• In 2026, Indian actress Kangana Ranaut portrayed her in the Hindi biographical drama film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. The film tells the story of the sacrifices made by frontline healthcare workers during the Mumbai terror attacks.
