• In July 2026, Nilanjan Das came into news after he was assaulted by a crowd in Kolkata’s Bhowanipore area while interacting with media.

• A video of the incident went viral in which Das was surrounded by a group of people with one person grabbing him by the collar and dragging him while others shouted slogans. Nilanjan appeared distressed before police stepped in and safely escorted him away from the crowd.
