Controversy	Relationship with Sukh Ratia Manjeet Kaur met Sukh Ratia on social media, and began their relationship after a bet on Instagram. She gave him information about herself, her child and her previous smoking habits, and she quit when she was with him. Both families knew and approved of the two who were in a live-in relationship for one and a half years, during which they discussed marriage plans. At this time, Manjeet fell pregnant but Sukh Ratia insisted she have an abortion, promising to move to an abroad together after they married. Sukh Ratia also seized a mobile phone which she purchased on her birthday and refused to hand it over. The relationship ended when Sukh Ratia shifted to Mumbai. He ended her phone calls, told her he was a brother and ended the relationship. Ratia then started posting in his personal social media videos with another woman named Tanu, calling it a "professional contract". Manjeet's personal cell number has been posted on Instagram by Tanu, which led to a public confrontation online. Manjeet also posted Tanu and Sukh Ratia's number and Ratia's family's phone number on Instagram. Later, Tanu messaged Manjeet privately and requested the removal of the posts and phone numbers, stating that she had no romantic relation with Sukh Ratia. She said in an interview she'd made an official police complaint about the harassment, but the investigation had been put on hold because of the transfer of the officer in charge. She had also stated her grave emotional distress, past self-harm ideations and said that she wanted to go to Mumbai to meet Sukh Ratia and stop him marrying anyone else.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Manjeet Kaur

Manjeet Kaur was born and brought up in Kharar, Punjab.
She lost her father at a young age, when he died in a road accident.
After his death, she was forced to marry at age 13 to get her father’s land and insurance payout.
When she was sixteen or seventeen years old she had a son. Afterwards, her husband divorced her and she never saw the child again.

As she aged, she started to get interested in social media and made it her work.

She has come up as a Punjabi social media influencer and accumulated nearly 1.46 lakh followers on Instagram and nearly 4,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Her posts featured promotions of cosmetics products along with reels and videos with songs in Punjabi and Haryanvi language.

She gained spotlight in 2024 for her relationship with another influencer Sukh Ratia.

At some point in her life, Kaur got married, but the marriage did not last and she got divorced.

Her son was seven years old when she passed away and stayed with his father.

On 3 July 2026, her life took a tragic turn. Kaur was lured by her acquaintances, Shubhi and Pinda, to an area close to a liquor shop in Sector 34, Chandigarh, a complaint filed later by her mother read.

Then the two forced her to get into a car and took her to Morinda in Punjab, the complaint says.

There, they allegedly assaulted her, tied her to a mulberry tree and set her on fire.

Soon after, a friend arrived and saw her severely injured and on fire and used a blanket to extinguish the flames.

Her initial treatment was at Morinda hospital and she was later moved to Max hospital, Mohali.

She was later referred to PGIMER Chandigarh and got admitted there on 9 July, with severe burn injuries.

Kaur was unconscious for several weeks after this and she continued to receive treatment at PGIMER.

Her family reports that she regained consciousness on 5 August.

She said that at that time she wanted to talk to the police and make a statement, but no officer was at the hospital at that time.

She regained awareness for a brief time, but then worsened once again. Kaur succumbed to the injuries, almost two months after the alleged attack, on 26 August 2026 at PGIMER Chandigarh.

There were still new details in the case emerging even after her death.

Her mother said Kharar Sadar police did not register her daughter’s statement when she was conscious and they felt her narration would have provided valuable information about the attack.

Police have registered a case based on the mother’s complaint of Kaur, who had filed an FIR in the police station in Sector 34 under sections for kidnapping, murder and joint criminal liability.
