Controversies | Comments on the Israel–Palestine Conflict: In 2021, Gal expressed concern about the Israel-Palestine conflict in a post. However, her statement "Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation, Our neighbors deserve the same" drew criticism amidst ongoing conflict and for her support for Israel. [1]The Hollywood Reporter In 2023, she faced backlash for comparing the killings of Israelis and Palestinians in a post. Gal later deleted the post due to the controversy it created. [2]Haaretz Banning of Films: Her films 'Wonder Woman' (2017) and 'Death on the Nile' (2022) were banned from screening in Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, and other Middle-East countries due to her Israeli nationality and involvement in the Israel Defense Forces; the decision was influenced majorly by the Arab–Israeli conflict. [3]Deadline Backlash from Indian Fans: In 2020, Gal shared a picture of Bilkis Bano, an Indian activist. She called her "My Personal Wonder Woman' and mistakenly credited her for gender equality protests. Indian fans criticised Gal and claimed she did it for promotions of Wonder Woman and did not know Bano, who was actually protesting against the citizenship law, not for gender equality. [4]VICE |
