- Dinesh Kumar Tripathi did his primary education in his village in a local school.
- In 5th class, he enrolled at the Sainik School in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, after passing an all-India exam.

- He appeared for the entrance examination of the Pune-based National Defence Academy after completing his schooling. At NDA, he opted for the science stream and became part of the Naval Academy.
- After completing three years of rigorous military training, Tripathi joined the Indian Naval Academy (INA), where he completed the military training module.
- Tripathi is considered to be an expert in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
