- She grew up in a middle-class Bengali family in Guwahati, Assam.
- Her parents have been inclined towards singing from their younger days. After watching her parents perform at various events, she started developing an interest in music at a very young age.
- When she was four years old, she heard the song ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ at a jalsa. She loved the song and expressed her desire to become a singer to his parents. Her mother then enrolled her in a music academy.
- She started professional singing at the age of 10 while studying at South Point School in Guwahati.
- Initially, she did her training in singing at Dwipen Roy of Guwahati, and later, went to Kolkata for higher level training, where she learned singing from Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.
- At a very young age, she started doing stage programs. She then started working as a bhajan singer in All India Radio Guwahati.
- In 2000, she recorded a few songs for the Assamese album ‘Bilot Tire Birai Podumor Pahi Oye.’ Soon, she started receiving offers from many Assamese music directors.
- In 2001, she lent her voice to the composition of popular Assamese musician Zubeen Garg in the Assamese film “Prem Aru Prem.” She received critical acclaim for her work.
