  • Ashwini’s father was a national hockey player. However, she preferred badminton over hockey and started training in the sport.
  • She created a record in Paris’ World Championship in 2010 when her smash was measured at 260 kmph, the best so far in Women’s badminton, whilst her partner Jwala’s best is measured at 219 kmph.
  • Ponnappa is an animal lover and loves listening to music in her spare time.
  • In June 2015, Ashwini-Jwala pair won the Canada Open women’s doubles title by defeating the top-seeded Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek. It was the pair’s first and only title in the year.
  • After her early exit from the 2024 Paris Olympics, she announced that she had played her last Olympics.
