Controversy | Jailed in Sohrabuddin- Tulsiram Prajapati Fake Encounter Case In 2005, gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kausar Bi, and associate Tulsi Prajapati were killed in an encounter in a joint operation between Rajasthan Police and Gujarat Police. Later, questions were raised about this encounter and cases were registered against many police officers calling it a fake encounter. In February 2007, Dinesh was arrested in the case following a report from DIG Rajnish Rai. After being jailed for seven years, he was granted bail in May 2014. - Dinesh grew up in Munaganahalli, Chintamani Taluka of Chikkaballapur district, Karnataka.
- He moved to Davanagere, Karnataka, to attend the University BDT College of Engineering.
- Dinesh’s father, Narayanaswamy, appeared in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) seven times, but could not qualify in the interview round. Therefore, he dreamed that Dinesh cleared the UPSC exam.
- He passed the UPSC exam on his first attempt.
- An IPS officer of the 1995 batch, he trained at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
- He made Dausa free of local goons when he was serving as ASP of the city in 1998-99.
- As ASP of Gandhi Nagar, Jaipur, he ended the widespread political hooliganism at the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur.
- As SP Sawai Madhopur, Dinesh supervised the capture of Ramswaroop urf Ram Singh Dacoit, who was active in Beehads of Chambal. Ram Singh was gunned down by the police on 17 April 2002.

- As IG ACB Rajasthan, Dinesh uncovered a major corruption racket in the Mining department, leading to the arrest of IAS officer Ashok Singhvi, the then Additional Chief Secretary of the Mines Department.
- On 4 April 2016, Dinesh arrested the sub-divisional magistrate of Shahpura Bharat Bhushan Goyal for accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh. This was the first instalment of a Rs 25 lakh bribe that an entrepreneur was offering him to set up a manufacturing unit for Ayurvedic medicines.
- In 2017, Dinesh was tasked with tracking down Rajasthan’s most wanted criminal Anand Pal Singh, who carried a reward of Rs. 10 lakhs on his head. Singh was killed in a police retaliatory firing at Malasar in Churu district under Dinesh’s supervision as IG SOG Rajasthan on 24 June 2017.
- Dinesh also headed SOG that exposed the Pincon Group Scam of more than Rs 1,000 crore.
- In 2023, after assuming the Charge as ADG (Crime), Dinesh led a special investigation team constituted by DGP Umesh Mishra to catch fugitive gangsters Rohit Godara and Ritik Boxer.
