• Farzana is the secretary of the Indian actor Rekha for more than three decades. She hit the headlines in 2023 following claims that journalist, news presenter, and biographer Yasser Usman suggested a “secret relationship” between Rekha and Farzana in his book ‘Rekha: The Untold Story’.

• Farzana began working as a hairdresser for Rekha in the 1980s. She became Rekha’s secretary by 1986. In 1988, she moved into Rekha’s residence and has been living there since then.

• As per sources, Farzana once had aspirations to become a film director, and she had assisted on multiple film projects to gain experience. She, however, later discovered that this role didn’t align with her interests as much as she had expected which led her to step away from it.

• In 2023, reports suggested that ‘Rekha: The Untold Story,’ a biography on Rekha by Yasser Usman, insinuated a romantic and possibly sexual relationship between Farzana and Rekha. ^[1]Times Now An alleged excerpt of the book read,

• Yaseer Usman, on the other hand, condemned the fact through a tweet and went on to clarify that in the entire biography, he never used phrases like ‘live-in relationship’ or made any implications that their relationship was sexual.

• According to sources, Rekha’s sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anil Gupta, have purportedly asserted that Farzana and Rekha were in a relationship. In an interview, they mentioned that during family gatherings in Delhi, they observed a noticeable shift in Rekha’s behaviour whenever Farzana was present. Rekha’s sister-in-law, in an interview, said,
  

  Something different was going on between Rekha and Farzana. Being friends or being sisters is very different, but Rekha and Farzana’s behavior was not the same. Rekha and Farzana had such a relationship like that of a husband and wife. I have seen all this with my own eyes.”

• Reports suggest that Farzana shares such a close bond with Rekha that she is the only person allowed into Rekha’s bedroom, a privilege that not even the housekeeping staff is granted.
