She began her screen career in 1976 with a Subaru commercial, appearing alongside her identical twin sister, Carol Infield Sender.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, she started getting television roles, including early appearances on shows like Lou Grant.

During the 1980s, she appeared in films such as The Karate Kid (1984), Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), and Big Top Pee-Wee (1988). In the same period, she played guest roles in television series including Silver Spoons (1986), Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989) and Married with Children (1994).

Across the 1990s, she continued steady television work, appearing on shows such as Ellen (1994), Spin City (2001), Scrubs (2002), and Will & Grace (2003).

Alongside screen work, she performed regularly in theatre productions including Lilies of the Field, Lost in Yonkers, and Over the River and Through the Woods.

In 1993, she originated the role of Helga in the Off-Broadway production Grandma Sylvia’s Funeral.
