ControversyJailed for Pedophilia

Former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was sentenced on 18 December 2013 for multiple child sex offences. Watkins was given a 29-year prison sentence, followed by six years on licence. He pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to 13 offences, including attempted rape of a baby. The court described him as a determined paedophile who used his fame to exploit fans. Watkins had sexually touched an 11-month-old baby belonging to a fan and tried to have penetrative sex with the child. He also asked another fan to abuse her child during a webcam chat. Police found child pornographic videos in his possession, some of which he had made himself. The day after admitting his crimes, Watkins spoke to a female fan from prison and said he planned to call the case “mega lolz.” Investigators said more cases could exist and started checking his activities in the United States and Germany. Two women, identified as Woman A and Woman B, were jailed for 14 and 16 years for helping him. Judge Mr Justice Royce said Watkins used his celebrity position to influence young female fans to take part in child abuse. The judge called the case one of the most serious ever seen in court. Watkins appeared quiet and nervous as he was sentenced and taken away from the dock. People in the public gallery shouted “yes” when the sentence was announced.
