  • In an interview, Justice Swarna shared that during 1947 India Pakistan partition, her grandparents and father migrated from Sargodha in Punjab, Pakistan.
  • Among seven girl children she was the third girl of her parents. Even after the society taunts, her father ensured that all his daughters received proper education.
  • While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from University of Delhi, she was awarded as one of the best all-round students of the year by Daulat Ram College.
  • During her college years, she was very active in debates and various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, where she earned many awards and certificates.

If this court was to recuse, it would be an act of surrender and a signal that institution including judge and the court can be bent, shaken and changed. Applications seeking recusal are rejected. Personal apprehensions have not been able to pass the threshold of the ‘apprehension of bias’. Recusal has to step from law, and not from narrative; and this is a defining moment for the court.”
