• Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar belongs to a family that has been connected to West Bengal and Indian politics and government for three generations.

• Her maternal grandfather was the Postmaster General of West Bengal.

• Her maternal uncle, Gurudas Dasgupta, served as a Member of Parliament (MP).

• Her paternal uncle, the late Arun Moitra, was a freedom fighter and had served as the Pradesh Congress President.

• On 30 November 1982, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar married Dr Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar, who serves as a specialist in infertility treatment and IVF. He has served as a minister in the West Bengal government.

• After that, she contested several elections on the ticket of Indian National Congress, but was unsuccessful.

• She lost the elections from the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency, the Ballygunge Assembly constituency, and the Jadavpur Assembly constituency in 1996.

• In 2012, she made headlines when people all over India were protesting and demanding justice for the victim of the Delhi gang rape case.

• During this period, she made controversial remarks about the Park Street gang rape case.

• She said that the Park Street incident was not a rape case.

• She stated that the Park Street case and the Delhi gang rape case should not be compared with each other.

• She said that Park Street incident was a misunderstanding between a lady and her client.

• Reportedly, her comments were understood as that the victim was a sex worker. She received criticism for her insensitive remarks on a rape case.

• In 2014, she contested from the Barasat parliamentary constituency in West Bengal as a Trinamool Congress candidate and was re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha for her 2nd term.

• Biswanath Ghosh Dastidar then stated the reason of her leaving TMC in a media talk. She claimed that the previous government was corrupt in the 2024 Kolkata rape and murder case.

• She also stated that the growing influence of the political consultancy group Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) within the TMC were one of the main the reasons why she resigned from her party positions.
