  • Kaniha was always interested in performing arts since her childhood and she used to sing and participate in pop music and light music shows.
  • In 2001, she was scheduled to perform at the Miss Chennai beauty pageant and all of a sudden she was selected to participate in the pageant after a model had backed out at the last minute. Despite a lack of any modelling experience, Kaniha ended up winning the beauty pageant title.

  • After winning the beauty title, she started getting many film offers.
  • Indian filmmaker Susi Ganesan spotted Kaniha on a magazine cover page and insisted on her performing as the lead female character in his second feature film. She eventually entered the Film industry and accepted the offer but her name was changed to Kaniha for her first Tamil film titled ‘5 Star’ (2002).
  • Kaniha completed the entire film ‘5 Star’ (2002) during her summer holidays as she was a student at that time.
  • In 2002, Kaniha also sang the Tamil song titled ‘Engalukku’ in the debut Tamil film titled ‘5 Star.’
  • Even before she finished her graduation, she completed her Telugu debut film ‘Ottesi Cheputunna’ (2003) during her winter vacations in which she acted under another stage name ‘Sravanthi.’
  • Kaniha decided to focus on her studies and complete her graduation which made her turn down all the film offers including films offered to her by the directors like S. Shankar and P. C. Sreeram.
  • After completing her graduation, in 2004, Kaniha was cast in the Tamil romantic drama film titled ‘Autograph’ in which she made a special appearance as the character named ‘Thenmozhi.’

  • In the same year, Kaniha was amongst many other people who were affected by the severe Cyclonic Storm Michaung. She had to evacuate her house due to the escalating water levels, lack of power, and water supply. Replying to her fans who were concerned, Kaniha posted an Instagram story in which she wrote

    YES we Evacuated. With no power and water supply and increasing level of water we had no choice. Thanks to the rescue team and their efforts. An entire community of 150 plus people were rescued and evacuated.”
