ControversyMortgage fraud allegations (August 2025)
On August 15, 2025, Federal Housing Finance Agency director Bill Pulte accused Lisa Cook of mortgage fraud, saying she listed two different homes as her main residence in 2021 to get better loan terms. He said he sent the case to the Department of Justice.
Five days later, President Trump wrote on Truth Social that “Cook must resign, now,” demanding she step down. That same day, Cook refused to resign. She said she would not be pressured to leave her job and promised to explain her financial records clearly.
She said: “As a Federal Reserve member, I take questions about my financial history seriously. I am gathering the right information so I can answer any real questions and provide the facts.” [1]The Guardian
