- In the incident, on 16 January 2026, a man named Yuvraj Mehta was returning from Gurugram to his home at Tata Eureka Park in Sector 150, Noida.

In the dense fog, Yuvraj did not see a basement excavation pit for a building project, which had rainwater and no barricades, reflectors, or warning signs.

His car fell into the pit. Reportedly, the police received the complaint around 12:15 a.m.

The rescue teams of the police, the fire department, SDRF, and NDRF helped with the rescue the next morning.

An eyewitness and deliveryman, Mohinder, saw the whole scene and claimed in the media that the rescue took too long, and the quick action might have saved Yuvraj.

Reportedly, the rescuers waited to rescue Yuvraj on the night of the incident because of the cold water and iron rods in the pit.
- The police investigations revealed that Yuvraj called his father from the sinking car and said,
Papa, Save Me.”
- However, the help came too late. Yuvraj Mehta’s post-mortem showed that he drowned first, then had asphyxia and cardiac arrest.
