  • An FIR was lodged on 26 June 2025 at 4:45 pm, leading to the arrests of Mishra and Zaib Ahmed from Talbagan crossing around 7:20 pm, and Pramit Mukherjee from his residence later that night.

  • All three accused were presented before the Alipore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded to police custody until 1 July 2025, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee was later arrested and remanded separately.
  • By 27 June 2025, police confirmed that CCTV footage, call records, and medical reports supported the victim’s allegations.

  • Investigators reported that Mishra allegedly used his influence to be admitted as an extra student in a 120-seat course, becoming the 121st, and retained access through political connections despite being expelled multiple times.

  • Mishra’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly, claimed a scratch on his client was a ‘love bite’ and requested a forensic analysis of the survivor’s phone after a medico-legal report found marks indicating resistance.
  • Faculty and students reported Mishra’s history of threats, harassment, and digital abuse, with prior complaints allegedly ignored due to his influence and political backing.
  • Known on campus as ‘MM’ or ‘Mango,’ he allegedly controlled student groups, shared vulgar content, and maintained dominance even after expulsion and re-admission.
  • Robin Mishra, Manojit’s father and a local priest, claimed he had broken ties with his son five years earlier and supported legal action if Manojit was guilty.
  • It was also reported that his mother had left the family a few years ago. His sister had also died.

  • SIT also confirmed that Manojit had allegedly continued to rape the survivor after she sustained a head injury, and that a bench used during the incident contained blood and biological evidence.
  • In early July 2025, a college TMC leader, Rajanya Halder, claimed that there were many people like Manojit Mishra in colleges across West Bengal, who exploited women and were offered party positions or favours in return.
  • West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose, who is also Chancellor of Calcutta University, expressed concern over the incident and demanded swift and strict action in the gangrape case from the university authorities.
  • On 4 July 2025, following the allegations and investigation, the West Bengal Bar Council revoked Manojit Mishra’s licence and barred him from practising law.
