Some Lesser Known Facts About Monu Goyat
- Monu Goyat is a well-known Indian Kabaddi player. He has played for teams such as Bengal Warriors and Haryana Steelers in the Pro Kabaddi League and represented India in international matches.
- He started his kabaddi journey at the age of 10 in his village, inspired and trained by his uncle, Vijender Singh. Unfortunately, Vijender, also a kabaddi enthusiast, couldn’t participate in the 1990 Beijing Games due to a knee issue.
- Monu’s talents led him to join the Indian Army in 2011, where he represented the army in various kabaddi matches under the guidance of Coach Jasvir Singh. However, his army commitments kept him from the Pro Kabaddi League for its first three seasons. In 2017, representing the Services Sports Board, he reached the finals of a major championship.
- In 2016, Monu debuted in the Pro Kabaddi League with Bengal Warriors, securing 59 raid points and 4 tackle points in 13 matches. This achievement placed him among the top 15 raiders that year.
- Later, he played for Patna Pirates and achieved 191 raid points in a season.
- Haryana Steelers then signed him for a whopping 1.51 Crore rupees in the 6th season, making him the highest-paid player in the league’s history and the year’s top-earning non-cricket athlete. He later played for U.P Yodha, Patna Pirates again, and then Telugu Titans.
- Monu is also recognized as the fourth-best raider in the league’s 5th season.
- Outside the arena, Monu is a dog lover and also has a Husky as a pet.
- He’s keen on fitness, often seen in the gym, practicing yoga, or swimming.
- He’s renowned for his ‘running hand touch’ move in kabaddi, where he tags an opponent swiftly and retreats to safety.
