- Nakshatra Bagwe belongs to a middle-class family.
- When he was 6 months old, he had a bad reaction to some medicine, which made him very sick. Doctors were uncertain if they could save him. He, however, recovered with time. He still has allergies to certain medicines.
- When he was a child, he moved to his village in Malkapur, Maharashtra, from Mumbai with his family because of some family issues and started attending school there.
- He did well in academics during his school years and actively participated in extracurricular activities, including sports.
- At the age of 14, Nakshatra developed his first crush on a boy who was his classmate at the school in his village. He, however, later moved back to Mumbai in class 12, while his parents were still in the village.
- When Nakshatra wanted to understand his sexual identity better and decided to come out, he simply searched on Google, “I am a boy and I like boys.”
- At the age of 17, he came out to his family about his sexual identity as gay during a dinner. While his mother expressed her wish that he had died at birth, his father remained silent and did not react at all.
- Nakshatra started dating a boy at the age of 18. His boyfriend supported him throughout his journey of coming out, while his parents did not accept him. Nakshatra, however, lost his boyfriend to a road accident later.
- Nakshatra felt alone after his boyfriend passed away. He almost had decided to send a nude picture to a stranger on Facebook in exchange for emotional support, but he stopped himself and logged off his account instead.
- In 2012, he made a short film titled ‘Logging Out’ based on his experience with the stranger on Facebook and his emotional journey following the loss of his boyfriend. The short film later won many international awards.
