  • Naresh Kathooria is an Indian film writer, producer, and actor. He is best known for his work in the Indian Punjabi film industry. Naresh Kathooria has written the scripts and dialogues for several successful Punjabi films, including the popular ‘Carry On Jatta’ series, ‘Lucky Di Unlucky Story’ (2013), and ‘Chandigarh Amritsar Chandigarh’ (2019).
  • He wanted to pursue a career in the film industry since he was a child. While studying in college, he started working as a theatre actor. Later, he started teaching students by conducting theatre workshops.
  • In 2002, he came to Mumbai with the dream of becoming a film director but faced challenges in finding work. However, he later found an opportunity to work as an assistant for a TV show where he discovered his interest in scriptwriting.
  • In 2003, Naresh Kathooria took up the role of a writer for the TV show ‘Bongo’ which aired on Doordarshan. In an interview, he revealed an interesting fact about the show and said that initially, ‘Bongo’ was not performing well and was on the verge of being discontinued. However, when Naresh Kathooria wrote some episodes, the show began to receive a positive response from the viewers which led to the show’s extension.
  • After debuting as a writer in the Punjabi film industry with the film ‘Chakk De Phatte’ (2008), he wrote the screenplay and dialogues for the film ‘Carry on Jatta’ (2012). The film ran well at the box office, making the writer a household name.

  • In an interview, he revealed that following the success of his film ‘Carry on Jatta,’ he started receiving numerous offers from the Bollywood film industry. However, during that period, he consciously made the decision to continue working in the Punjabi film industry.
  • From 2009-2011, he wrote the script for the well-known comedy reality show ‘Comedy Circus.’
  • After making his debut as an actor with the Indian Punjabi film ‘Lakh Pardesi Hoiye’ (2008), he played the role of Mark in the film ‘Pata Nahi Rabb Kehdeyan Rangan Ch Raazi’ (2012).
  • In 2013, Naresh Kathooria collaborated with film writers Vaibhav Suman and Smeep Kang to co-write the screenplay and dialogues for the film ‘Lucky Di Unlucky Story.’
  • In 2018, he appeared in the film in the film ‘Mr & Mrs 420 Returns’ in which he played the role of Gogi Mastana.

  • The writer debuted in Bollywood in 2023 with the film ‘Dream Girl 2,’ featuring Ayushmann Khurrana.

  • In an interview, when the writer was asked about choosing comedy as the main genre for his films, he said,

    Unlike other writers, my work doesn’t finish after I’ve written the script. I keep myself involved in the project till it gets released. Making people laugh satisfies me.”
