Some Lesser Known Facts About Neha Hiremath
- Neha Hiremath met Fayaz Khondunaik (aka Fayaz Kondikoppa) of Sainagar Munavalli, Savadatti in Belagavi district while studying for a BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications).
- According to one source, they fell in love while studying in college, but Neha started avoiding Fayaz later.
- Some other sources claimed that Fayaz developed one-sided love for Neha and approached her on various occasions which she rejected due to religious differences as Fayaz was reportedly a Muslim; whereas, Neha was a Hindu.
- It was reported that Neha’s family members also talked to Fayaz and told him to stay away from Neha. Neha also stopped going to college to stop Fayaz from stalking her.
- As of April 2024, her father, Niranjan Hiremath, is an Indian National Congress(INC) member and Councillor of Ward No. 68 of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).
- According to media reports, Fayaz proposed to Neha but when she refused his proposal, he felt humiliated and allegedly told his friends that he would take his revenge.
- Fayaz later failed in BCA while Neha went on to pursue post-graduation.
- Neha went to BVB College, Hubbali to take exams for the first year of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) on 18 April 2024. Before that, she was on two months of medical leave.
- Fayaz approached Neha when she was leaving college around 4:30 pm and stabbed her around 7-8 times after which she fell on the ground, and Fayaz fled from there.
- According to one source, fellow students and college authorities caught him, and as per another source, Fayaz was caught one hour later by Vidyanagar Police officials.
- Neha was taken to KIMS Hospital but later died due to injuries from the stabbing.
- On 18 April 2024, FIR number 0047/2024 was lodged at Vidyanagar police station, Hubballi under sections 302 and 506 of the IPC section 1860.
- Neha’s family and members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) surrounded the Vidyanagar police station and demanded the police hand over Fayaz to them.
- On 19 April 2024, several roads were blocked by members of many Hindu organisations and supporters of Neha’s father, Niranjan Hiremath, a local politician and corporator of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).
- On 20 April 2024, Fayaz’s mother, Mumtaz, a teacher, gave a controversial statement that Fayaz and Neha were lovers, and Fayaz was depressed as Neha broke up with him.
- She also said that Fayaz was an intelligent boy. On 13 April 2024, he told her that he was going to find a job and left the home. She learned about the murder when one of her relatives told her to switch on the TV and watch the news. She said that Fayaz should be punished as per the law of the land.
- Fayaz’s father, Baba Saheb Subani, apologised to Neha’s family and demanded strict punishment for his son. He said that he had not talked to Fayaz for many days, and Fayaz and his mother were living separately.
- Neha’s family members condemned the statement of Fayaz’s mother and said that her murder was a case of Love Jihad. They said that Fayaz had been stalking Neha since their BCA days and forced her to accept his proposal but she refused every advance made by Fayaz.
- A picture went viral on social media in which Fayaz was seen holding Neha in his arms. The person who uploaded the photo on Twitter also wrote ‘Neha fayaz true love, Justice for thr love.’

- Neha’s family members complained about people uploading such photos, and on 21 April 2024, police arrested two youths. Neha’s family also alleged that there was a bigger conspiracy behind such anti-social people who were trying to defame Neha after brutally murdering her.
- Neha’s mother, Geeta Hiremath, alleged that Fayaz and his family members conspired to murder Neha for refusing their proposal.
- Social media influencer Priya Savadi made headlines for her comments as she demanded that Fayaz should be hanged at the earliest. She said that Muslims force their women to wear burqa and stay at home but they tease Hindu girls in the streets.
- Many celebrities including Pranitha Subhash also tweeted about Neha Hiremath’s murder and demanded justice in the matter.
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members took to the streets and protested in several parts of Karnataka, alleging that the Karnataka state government of Congress was trying to dilute the case.
- Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara, also issued a statement in the media saying that the boy and girl were in love and BJP members were trying to disturb the state’s functioning with their comments.
- Later, Niranjan Hiremath, Neha’s father, demanded that the state police was trying to shield Fayaz and divert the case. He demanded a CBI enquiry into the murder, alleging that state police have failed as they have not arrested even one of the eight people he named in his complaint.
- On 21 April 2024, the 11th national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, J. P. Nadda, and Karnataka Women Commission Chairman, Naglakshmi Choudhary, visited Neha’s residence and offered tribute to Neha.
- Nadda demanded a CBI enquiry, and Choudhary said that politicians and government officers should not give any statement regarding the murder and let the law take its course.
- Muslim communities from various parts of Karnataka also demanded justice for Neha and requested the police officers to conduct a thorough enquiry.
- Many Veerashaiva Lingayat seers including Fakira Dingaleshwar Swami and Mallikarjun Swami of Murugha Mutt met Neha’s family and criticised BJP for doing politics over the murder. They also requested the state government to take swift action.
