Some Lesser Known Facts About Prerana Katte

• Prerana Katte was born and grew up in Sitara, Maharashtra. She belongs to an agricultural family.

• In an interview, Katte mentioned that no one in her family had previously worked in civil services, and she was the first person in her family to take up a job outside farming. She added that her father, who himself wanted to pursue a career in civil services, although due to his family circumstances, he didn’t fulfill his dream; however, he always encouraged his daughters to follow the path instead.

• When she was in grade 9, she had decided to pursue a career in civil service. She said,

By the time I was in Class 8 or 9, I was sure I wanted to pursue civil services. I used to read articles about officers and even kept newspaper cuttings about them.”

• After completing her bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, she appeared in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination.

• In 2016, Prerana Katte cleared the MPSC examination on her first attempt.

• During her initial training, she suffered an ankle injury that still affects her. In an interview, she shared,

I had an ankle fracture during training which never healed properly because I couldn’t get enough rest. It still troubles me.”

• In 2017, after completing her training, her police career started as a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Satara.

• Over the years, she held several important postings across Maharashtra, gaining experience in different areas of policing.

• In 2020, Prerana Katte served in Kolhapur, where she took strong action against illegal gambling and betting activities.

• In 2022, she was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

• In 2025, Prerana served as an ACP at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, where she helped in managing law-and-order situations and public gatherings in one of the city’s busiest areas. In the same year, she worked with the Economic Offences Wing in Navi Mumbai, where she handled cases related to financial crimes and fraud.

• In March 2026, Prerana Katte came into the news after she was appointed as the first woman Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch.

• Prerana Katte served as the Vice Principal at the Police Training Centre in Khandala, where she mentored young recruits who are preparing to join the police force.
