- Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo is an Indian toddler who is known for becoming the youngest mountaineer to climb the 17.6k ft base camp of Mount Everest at the age of 5 on 20 June 2023.
- Her grandparents hail from Prabhat Pattan, Betul district in Madhya Pradesh. His father, who works as an IT Engineer, shifted to Mumbai and settled there with his family.
- Prisha started trekking when she was two years old. She developed an interest in trekking because her father had a fondness for trekking. In an interview, he said that he goes trekking every weekend with Prisha. Lokesh is a former trainee of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, which enables him to guide Prisha during their treks.
- She has visited various places such as Sinhagad, Lohagad, Visapur, Karnala, Sondai, Kothaligad, Prabalmachi, Kalavantin, and Raigad. She even climbed Kalsubai Shikhar when she was just three years old.
- She made a record by reaching the highest peak in Maharashtra state, Kalsubai, in just 3 hours and 16 minutes on 31 October 2021. She accomplished this record at the age of 3 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Her father shared the news of her achievement on the social media page of The Better India. In the post, he wrote, ‘As per our knowledge, she may be the youngest girl to climb the Kalsubai peak.’ He also shared a picture of Prisha holding a blue-coloured placard with the caption, “If encouraged, girls can prove themselves and reach the top of the world! Give every girl child a good start.”
- On 20 June 2023, she became the youngest mountaineer to reach the base camp of the world’s tallest peak Mount Everest. She reached the base camp, which is at a height of 17,598 feet or 5,364 metres, in 12 days. In an interview, her father talked about her trek and said,
Prisha landed in Lukla (Nepal) and started the trek on May 24 with him and reached the Everest base camp on June 1, 2023, by proudly holding the Indian Flag and later returned to Lukla (Nepal) on June 4, 2023. It was an extremely difficult and high-altitude trek where many trekkers experience difficulty in breathing, headache and acute mountain sickness, but Prisha managed the difficulties well.”
- Before embarking on their journey to the Everest Base Camp, Prisha and her father used to walk a distance of 5 to 6 miles every day. She also used to do aerobics, climb the stairs of her apartment, and climb the walls in her garden area to prepare for the trek.
- She also does karate, plays table tennis, and does swimming and because of her love for these sports, she consistently engages in practice and training.
