  • Raj K. Purohit was born in a Rajasthani family and was groomed in right-wing politics from the Jana Sangh period before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • Purohit later settled in Mumbai and made the city his permanent home and political workplace. He emerged as a prominent North Indian and migrant Rajasthani leader within Mumbai and South Mumbai BJP circles.
  • He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly five times during his political career. He represented the Mumbadevi Assembly constituency continuously from 1990 to 2009.
  • He was elected once from the Colaba Assembly constituency for the term from 2014 to 2019. Raj Purohit also served as Mumbai BJP president from September 2010 to June 2013.
  • During his tenure in the Maharashtra government, he served as a cabinet minister handling the housing department.
