Some Lesser Known Facts About RJ Chaitu

• RJ Chaitu is an Indian radio jockey, YouTuber, TV presenter and content creator who is known for hosting the top-rated radio shows ‘Zabardasth Masti’ and ‘Midnight Biryani’ on the radio network Red FM Hyderabad.

• After his father’s demise, Chaitu experienced a problematic childhood, earning a living by delivering couriers at the age of twelve.

• A talkative child, Chaitu grew up participating in various interactive activities and competitions at school.

• He was intrigued to pursue a career in the entertainment industry after watching singer-songwriter Devi Sri Prasad’s live concert during his college days. Fascinated by the singer’s interactive performance Chaitu decided to become an entertainer.

• He relocated to Hyderabad in 2008, where he attended college, meanwhile pursuing an animation course and seeking job opportunities. In an interview, while recalling his hectic schedule in Hyderabad, he said,
  

  I would go to the animation course in the morning, college in the afternoon and worked at a call centre at night. I barely slept during that period of life.”

• Listening to radio jockeys like RJ Raaj and RJ Prateeka stimulated his interest to pursue a career in the radio industry.

• He undertook numerous odd jobs including working at a shopping mall, call centre, and gift shop, before securing a job as a radio jockey.

• Despite his mother’s ignorance of the radio industry, she was supportive of Chaitu’s decision to become an RJ. In an interview, while talking about his supportive family, he said,
  

  I started earning very early in life. So, my mother and brother, even though they didnt know what the hell I was doing, they always believed that I would figure something out. ‘Edo okati chesesthadu le veedu,’ they thought.”

• Later, he started auditioning for the job of a radio jockey. The call centre training that Chaitu had received for his job messed up his accent. As a result, he was six times rejected for the job of an RJ.

• He secured the job of an RJ in 2009, in his seventh attempt, when his acquaintance RJ Kajal of Red FM Hyderabad urged him to audition for an Outdoor Broadcast (OB) show of Red FM.

• Although back-to-back rejection had demotivated Chaitu, he agreed to appear in the audition, where he gained the attention of the programme head. While narrating the incident, in an interview, he said,
  

  Just when I thought this one would go in vain, the programme head noticed me and asked why she kept seeing me here. I told her abt the audition, she heard it on the spot and sent me for an OB show right then and there.”

• Chaitu began his journey as a radio jockey with Red FM Hyderabad on 11 September 2009.

• In 2010, he started anchoring TV shows at the Telugu music channel Maa Music (Star Maa Music). As a Tv presenter, he hosted various shows like Maa Music’s ‘College Style’ and ‘Chai Biscuit’ and ETV Plus’ ‘Must Time Pass.’

• Chaitu’s work in the OB radio show ‘Red on Road’ earned him immense appreciation. In 2013, he secured the opportunity to host the radio show ‘Midnight Biryani.’

• Once, during his midnight radio show, he went out of the way to cheer up a caller by delivering a motivational speech. The incident garnered RJ Chaitu a loyal fanbase and escalated his popularity. He recalled the incident in an interview and said,
  

  The next morning I had 250 mails of people telling me that they deeply connected to what I said that night…I realised that there are certain emotions people connect to and need someone to voice them…So if through my medium I’m able to make someone’s day better, I will keep doing that”

• In 2015, he started hosting another radio show called ‘Zabardast Masti,’ which won the Excellence in Radio Awards (ERA) in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019, in the category of Best Radio Show (Non-Breakfast- Telugu). In the female-oriented show, he discussed various topics like fashion, cooking, budgeting, lifestyle, behavioural issues, neighbourhood happenings, etc.

• He also hosted IPL from Hyderabad in 2015.

• The RJ emcees various ceremonies, events, and TV shows, meanwhile juggling his time between radio and voiceovers. Additionally, he is also a small-time singer, who has voiced a few jingles for Red FM Hyderabad.

• In January 2021, he established the now-defunct Youtube channel ‘Chatterbox Chaitu.’ The channel featured his show “Challenges with Chatterbox Chaitu.” Each challenge of the show was divided into four sections of one minute, 30 seconds, 20 seconds, and 10 seconds to induce an adrenaline rush among both the audience as well as the celebrities who play it. Chaitu came up with the idea to introduce the show after noticing that there was a lack of Telugu shows that had both games and interviews with celebrities. The premiere episode featuring Telugu actors Syed Sohel, Akhil Sarthak, and Ariyana Glory garnered one million views within a week making it a hit show.

• In November 2021, RJ Chaitu started his self-titled YouTube channel on which he interviews Telugu film stars, plays games with his acquaintances, posts random vlogs, and participate in food challenges.

• In 2022, he appeared in the Indian Telugu-language reality digital series ‘Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu’ as a contestant and a part of Team Challengers.

• On the sets of the show Bigg Boss Non-Stop Telugu (2022), Chaitu confessed that he was body shamed during his childhood. The confession came up during the nominations in the show in which Chaitu nominated the ace choreographer Nataraj alleging that the latter had been body-shaming him.

• Once, in an interview, Chaitu shared an amusing incident about her mother and said that she video called him from train to show off his famous son to other passengers.

• RJ Chaitu is a huge fan of Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), a popular Telugu singer-songwriter, with whom he also shares his birthday. On their birthday in 2012, DSP gifted the RJ a bracelet, which Chaitu considers his most prized possession.

  I can’t stand it if others’ cars aren’t clean or are smelly… Others’ Not mine!”
