Some Lesser Known Facts About Sajeevan Sajana
- Apart from cricket, Sajana also indulged in other sports like basketball, volleyball, kho-kho, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, shot put, and 800m run when she was studying in school. She also captained the football team of Wayanad district in Kerala.
- Sajana became serious about making a career in cricket in the 11th standard. Her physical education teacher noticed cricketing potential in her and persuaded her to give Kerala Cricket Association’s trials.
- On 9 November 2012, Sajana made her List A debut for Kerala against Andhra in the 2012–13 Senior Women’s One Day League.
- Sajana made her Twenty20 debut for Kerala on 18 December 2011, against Andhra in the 2011–12 Senior Women’s T20 League.
- Sajana made her first-class debut for South Zone on 1 March 2017, against West Zone in the 2016–17 Senior Women’s Cricket Inter Zonal Three-Day Game.
- Under Sajana’s leadership, Kerala won the U-23 national T20 championship in 2018. In the final against Maharashtra in Mumbai, Sajana led from the front and helped Kerala chase the target of 115 runs with an unbeaten knock of 24 runs off 19 balls. She also said that the bat she used in the innings was gifted to her by Gautam Gambhir when he visited Wayanad to play a Ranji Trophy game in 2016.
- Sajana once shared an incident in an interview when back in 2018 she was selected to play for India Reds in the Women’s Challenger Trophy. At that time, Kerala was experiencing floods, especially in the place where Sajana lived. She was stuck in her house when police boats rescued her after which she was able to go to Bangalore to join the team. She further said,
I took my cricket kit and a few clothes and hopped on to the boat. Even though I reached Bangalore to play in the Challenger Trophy, I was disturbed as our house was devastated by the floods. My teammates supported me a lot and I somehow managed to play on”
- In December 2023, Sajana was signed by Mumbai Indians at a price of ₹15 lakhs to play for them in the Women’s Premier League auction, for the 2024 season.
- Sajana and Asha Sobhana signed a contract with Puma as brand collaborators in 2024.
- Sajana rose to the limelight during the WPL 2024 when she helped Mumbai Indians win the match against Delhi Capitals. In the last moments of the match, 5 runs were needed from 1 ball when Sajana hit a six and clinched victory for her team.
