He was born in Cameroon. Due to poverty, his parents gave their son to their relatives who fled to France for a better lifestyle. He was just 2 years old that time.
In France, he grew up with a large family of immigrants from Cameroon.
At the age of 8, he joined Lyon Academy.
In his childhood, he initially played as a forward, then he became a midfielder and finally found him playing in defence.
After 11 years as a youth player, he made his debut in the senior side of Lyon on 8 January 2012.
He has represented France in the under-17 to under-21 levels. He also won the FIFA U-20 World Cup with France. He received a red card in the semi-finals of the tournament and hence wasn’t able to play in the final with Uruguay.
